Shark WARNING for Fourth Groyne Surf Break near Mandurah

Rangers from the City of Mandurah have reopened the beach, following the reported shark interaction at Fourth Groyne Surf Break, Silver Sands.
DPIRD Fisheries officers have concluded their sea-based patrols in the area and have resumed routine operational patrols.
DPIRD recommends additional caution in the Silver Sands Beach area.

Update on 7 February at 10:00am
DPIRD Fisheries Officers have now confirmed that the shark interaction took place at approximately 7:00am involving a surf ski, not a jetski as previously advised. This incident was reported to the department at approximately 7:40am.
DPIRD Fisheries Officers are conducting sea-based patrols along the Mandurah coastline near Silver Sands Beach including Fourth Groyne Surf Break.
Rangers from the City of Mandurah have closed beaches 1km either side of Fourth Groyne Surf Break including Silver Sands Beach and will reassess later today.

Alert level:
A shark WARNING has been issued for Fourth Groyne Surf Break in the City of Mandurah in after a reported shark interaction.
Situation:
- The shark interaction was reported by members of the Mandurah Surf Life Saving Club at approximately 07:40am.
- A reported medium unknown species of shark bumped a jetski approximately 150m offshore near MH055 Fourth Groyne Surf Break BEN sign.
- To reduce the threat to people, Fourth Groyne Surf Break beach has now been closed by the City of Mandurah.
What to do:
- Take additional caution in the Mandurah area.
- Adhere to beach closures advised by Local Government Rangers, Parks and Wildlife Service officers or Surf Life Saving WA.
- Use your Sea Sense and stay informed by checking for shark activity on the SharkSmart website, SharkSmart WA app or Surf Life Saving WA’s Twitter feed.
- If you see a shark, report it to Water Police on 9442 8600. All shark sighting information reported to Water Police is provided to land managers and relevant authorities and to the public on the SharkSmart website, SharkSmart WA app and Surf Life Saving WA Twitter feed.

Fisheries officers from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) are monitoring the situation.
