Shark INCIDENT for Swan River near North Fremantle

Rangers from the City of Fremantle have reopened the beach, following the reported serious shark bite incident in the Swan River near the Fremantle Bridge, North Fremantle.
Fisheries officers from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) have resumed routine operational patrols within the Fremantle area.
DPIRD recommends additional caution in the Swan River, North Fremantle and the surrounding area.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) continue to liaise with WA Police and relevant authorities in relation to a reported serious shark bite incident in the Swan River near the Fremantle Bridge, North Fremantle.
Rangers from the City of Fremantle closed the beach following the incident and it remains closed.
DPIRD Fisheries Officers are conducting land and water-based patrols in the area today.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is currently assisting WA Police with a reported serious shark bite incident in the Swan River at North Fremantle.
Situation:
- DPIRD received a report of a possible shark bite incident at approximately 3:30pm on 4 February 2023.
- DPIRD is working with local authorities and further information will be provided as it becomes available.
What to do:
- Take additional caution in the Swan River in the North Fremantle area.
- Adhere to water closures advised by Local Government Rangers.
- Use your Sea Sense and stay informed by checking for shark activity on the SharkSmart website, SharkSmart WA app or Surf Life Saving WA’s Twitter feed.
- If you see a shark, report it to Water Police on 9442 8600. All shark sighting information reported to Water Police is provided to land managers and relevant authorities and to the public on the SharkSmart website, SharkSmart WA app and Surf Life Saving WA Twitter feed.
What authorities are doing:
DPIRD is working with WA Police and local authorities to coordinate responses.
A DPIRD Fisheries vessel is on the water monitoring the area, and DPIRD officers are conducting land-based patrols.
