Shark INCIDENT for Quondong Beach near Broome

Fisheries officers from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) have completed sea based patrols in the Quondong Beach area.
Patrols have concluded for today and DPIRD Fisheries officers will now resume routine operational patrols within the Broome area.
DPIRD recommends additional caution in the Quondong Beach area.

Fisheries officers from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) have conducted sea based patrols in the Quondong Beach area, to advise water users of the shark incident.
Patrols have concluded for today and DPIRD Fisheries officers will resume sea based patrols on Saturday 22 May.
DPIRD recommends additional caution in the Quondong Beach area.

Alert Level:
Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) are currently coordinating responses for a shark incident at Quondong Beach, north of Willie Creek in the Shire of Broome.
Situation:
- A male diver received injuries after being bitten by a reported 3m tiger shark.
- The incident was reported at approximately 11:20am on 21 May 2021.
- The incident occurred approximately 300-500m offshore at Quondong Beach, north of Willie Creek.
- The diver travelled by vessel to Cable Beach, Broome to receive treatment by St John Ambulance.
What to do:
- Take additional caution in the Quondong Beach area.
- Adhere to beach closures advised by Local Government Rangers, Parks and Wildlife Service officers or Surf Life Saving WA.
- Use your Sea Sense and stay informed by checking for shark activity on the SharkSmart website, SharkSmart WA app or Surf Life Saving WA’s Twitter feed.
- If you see a shark, report it to Water Police on 9442 8600. All shark sighting information reported to Water Police is provided to land managers and relevant authorities and to the public on the SharkSmart website, SharkSmart WA app and Surf Life Saving WA Twitter feed.
