Shark INCIDENT for Mistaken Island near City of Albany

The City of Albany have removed warning signs from Goode Beach, near Mistaken Island, Albany.

Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) recommends additional caution in the waters near Mistaken Island and the surrounding area.

Rangers from the City of Albany are installing warning signs on Goode Beach, near Mistaken Island, Albany.

Alert issued on 16 August 2022

Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) are currently investigating a shark incident that occurred in waters off Mistaken Island near Goode Beach in City of Albany. 

Situation:

  • A spearfisherman received injuries after being bitten by a suspected white shark at Mistaken Island on Monday 15th August and is now recovering in hospital.

What to do:

  • Take additional caution in the Goode Beach, Mistaken Island area.
  • Adhere to beach closures advised by Local Government Rangers, Parks and Wildlife Service officers or Surf Life Saving WA.
  • Use your Sea Sense and stay informed by checking for shark activity on the SharkSmart website, SharkSmart WA app or Surf Life Saving WA’s Twitter feed.
  • If you see a shark, report it to Water Police on 9442 8600. All shark sighting information reported to Water Police is provided to land managers and relevant authorities and to the public on the SharkSmart website, SharkSmart WA app and Surf Life Saving WA Twitter feed. 

What authorities are doing: 

DPIRD is working with local authorities to coordinate responses.
