Shark WARNING for Meelup Beach

Update on 5 January 2021 at 9:28 am

DPIRD recommends additional caution in the Meelup Beach area after a tagged white shark has continued to be detected between 30 December 2020 and 5 January 2021.

It is possible that the frequency and duration of the recent detections may increase the likelihood of encountering a shark in the area.

Water users are urged to adhere to local beach closures advised by Local Government Rangers and Surf Life Saving WA.

Shark ADVICE for Yeagarup Beach near Windy Harbour

Update on 24 December at 08:50 am.

Officers from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions have inspected Yeagarup Beach and the whale carcass is no longer present on the beach.

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

Shark WARNING for Perth Metropolitan Beaches

Current Alerts and Warnings

Update on 11 December at 4:45pm 

Officers from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) continue to monitor the level of shark sightings and tagged shark detections.  

Water users including recreational abalone fishers are reminded to take additional caution along Perth Metropolitan Beaches and to adhere to local beach closures.

Fisheries officers from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) will now resume routine operational patrols within the Cable Beach area on Saturday 12th December.  

DPIRD recommends additional caution at Cable Beach and the surrounding area.
