Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) are currently investigating a possible shark bite incident at Delta Island, west of Karratha

Update on 17 March at 3:54PM

Following yesterday’s reported shark interaction, City of Albany Rangers have reopened Cheynes Beach. 

DPIRD Fisheries Officers will conclude their land-based patrols in the area at 6.00pm and will resume routine operational patrols.  

DPIRD recommends additional caution in the Cheynes Beach area.

The Shire of Jerramungup have advised that the whale carcass reported at Reef Beach, west of Bremer Bay is no longer in place. 

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as residue from where the whale carcass was located may still attract sharks to the area.

Update on Saturday 11 February at 8:35am

The City of Fremantle, Town of East Fremantle and Town of Mosman Park have reopened beaches along the Swan River within their respective jurisdictions.

DPIRD Fisheries officers will continue to conduct water-based patrols in the area over the weekend. 

DPIRD recommends additional caution in the Swan River, Fremantle and the surrounding area.

The City of Albany have advised that the dolphin carcass reported at Lower King Foreshore, Oyster Harbour is no longer in place. 

Additional caution is recommended by DPIRD, as residue from where the dolphin carcass was located may still attract sharks to the area.

Update on 7 February at 1:25pm

Rangers from the City of Mandurah have reopened the beach, following the reported shark interaction at Fourth Groyne Surf Break, Silver Sands. 

DPIRD Fisheries officers have concluded their sea-based patrols in the area and have resumed routine operational patrols.  

DPIRD recommends additional caution in the Silver Sands Beach area.
