Officers from the City of Busselton have now removed the whale carcass from Smiths Beach and the beach has been reopened. 

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

The City of Karratha have reopened 40 Mile Beach following the removal of the whale carcass.

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

Services have been restored to the Swanbourne Shark Monitoring Network receiver.

Alert level:

A shark ADVICE has been issued due to whale carcasses being reported at Yeagarup Beach west of Windy Harbour in the Shire of Manjimup.

Update on 9 August at 11:45 am

Scheduled maintenance of the Shark Monitoring Network receivers at Cottesloe, Leighton and Port Beach has now been completed. These receivers are fully operational.

The receivers located at 3.5 km off Trigg, Sorrento, Swanbourne and Garden Island remain offline and require further onsite maintenance to restore service to these receivers.

The City of Mandurah have reopened White Hills Beach, south of Mandurah, following the removal of the whale carcass.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is currently coordinating the response for a shark incident at Rat Island in the Abrolhos Islands.

The Shire of Harvey have reopened West Coast Drive Beach, near Binningup following the removal of the whale carcass.

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

The Town of Cottesloe have reopened South Cottesloe Beach following the removal of the whale carcass yesterday afternoon.
