The Shire of Capel have now reopened Peppermint Grove Beach to the public.

The whale carcass has been removed.

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

Alert Level 

Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) are currently investigating a possible shark bite incident at Kelp Beds Beach in the Esperance.

Update on 6th October 2020 at 3:40pm: 

Services have been restored to the Shark Monitoring Network receiver located 2km off Scarborough.

The network is now fully operational.

Alert level:

A shark WARNING has been issued for Hamersley Pool and Toms Surf Break, in North Beach after a surfer had an interaction with what is believed to be a 1.5 metre bronze whaler shark which was reported to Water Police at 11:37am.

Update on 2 October at 8:40am

The system outage affecting the Shark Monitoring Network has now been resolved.

A partial outage is still in place for two receivers in the Scarborough area. Both the 1.5km and 2km offshore receivers are currently offline. The City of Albany have inspected the area and located the whale carcass 300m north-west of the AL3826 Wellstead BEN sign, Cape Riche. 

City of Albany rangers are monitoring the situation and providing advice to relevant authorities.
