Shark ADVICE for Lancelin Beach near Lancelin

The Shire of Gingin have reopened Lancelin Beach. 

Parks and Wildlife Service officers from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions have successfully removed the whale carcass from the beach.

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

Shark ADVICE for Shark Warning Systems near Gracetown.

Alert level:

A shark ADVICE has been issued for water users in the Gracetown area, due to the removal five Shark Warning Systems (towers) following the conclusion of the SMART drumline trial.

Shark INCIDENT for Gumtree Bay near Leeman.

Update 24th June 2021 at 3pm

The Shire of Carnamah have now reopened Gum Tree Bay Beach.

There have been no further shark sightings in the Gum Tree Bay area.

Shark ADVICE for Nanarup Beach in the Shire of Albany

Update on 23rd June 2021 at 1:36pm

The whale carcass has washed back onto shore in the Taylor Inlet area on Nanarup Beach. 

Officers from the City of Albany and the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) are monitoring the situation.

It is possible the decomposing carcass will continue to act as an attractant that could lead to sharks coming close in to shore along this stretch of coast.

DBCA Officers have reopened the closed areas North and South of the Coral Bay Jetty.

There have been no further shark sightings in the Coral Bay area.

Shark INCIDENT for Quondong Beach near Broome

Update on 22 May at 2:20pm

Fisheries officers from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) have completed sea based patrols in the Quondong Beach area.

Patrols have concluded for today and DPIRD Fisheries officers will now resume routine operational patrols within the Broome area.  

DPIRD recommends additional caution in the Quondong Beach area.
