Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) advise that the whale carcass reported at Cheynes Beach, near Albany is no longer in place. 

Additional caution is recommended by DPIRD, as residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

Update on 9 January 2023 at 15:15pm

Parks and Wildlife Service officers from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions have inspected the area where the whale carcass was located at Sharp Point, Albany and have advised that it is no longer in place.

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

Services have been restored to the Shark Warning System (tower) at Lefthanders Surfing Spot, south of Gracetown.

Alert level:

A shark WARNING has been issued for Cosies Surf Break in Falcon in the City of Mandurah after a reported shark interaction.  

Update on 15 December at 10:55am

Scheduled maintenance of the Shark Monitoring Network has now been completed. The Shark Notification System is fully operational again.

Tagged shark detection information has been reviewed during the time of the outage and no detections occurred during this period.

Update on 29 November at 1:30pm

Services have been restored to the Shark Monitoring Network receivers located at Swanbourne and 3.5km off Trigg. The network is now fully operational.

Update on 25 November at 11:00am

The City of Albany has advised that the whale carcass is no longer in place at Nanarup Beach.  

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

The City of Albany has advised that the whale carcass is no longer in place at Cosy Corner Beach.  

Additional caution is recommended by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, as any residue from where the whale carcass was beached may still attract sharks to the area.

Update on 4 November at 1:50pm

The system outage for the Shark Monitoring Network has now been resolved and receivers are back on line. The Shark Notification System is fully operational again.
